It denotes International English Language Testing System that is basically used to calculate and measure the language proficiency and capability of respective candidates those who want to study or work, where English is used as basic language of communication. Depending upon the requirements & necessities of candidates, IELTS is divided into two versions of the test.
1.)  Academics: a version of this test is suitable for the candidates who are looking for higher education or professional registration in foreign countries.
2.)  General Training: these tests are suitable for those candidates who wish to migrate to Australia, Canada and the UK or for those who are applying for secondary education or training programmes and work experience.
                                                                                                                                        
However, these tests are divided into different versions. But, both versions are considered to provide a valid and accurate assessment and results for candidates. Further, IELTS is calculated on the basis of 4 important language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking.

1.)  LISTENING: This part of the test is conducted to judge your listening and understanding abilities of English language. Duration time for this part will be of 30 minutes and comprises of 40 questions, carrying 1 mark for each question.

This part consists of questions that are divided more into 6 parts: (a) multiple choice questions, (b) (b) matching, (c) plan, map, diagram labelling, (d) form, note, table, flow-chart, summary completion, (e) sentence completion, (f) short answers questions.

2.)  READING: This part is conducted to check & regulate your reading abilities for the English language. This part again comprises of 40 questions carrying 1 mark for each question. Reading component is designed to test a wide range of candidate’s reading skills.  It includes extracts from books, magazines, newspapers, advertisements or general guidelines.

This the part is again further divided into questions in 9 parts: (a) multiple choice questions, (b) Identifying Information, (c) identifying writer’s views/claims, (d) matching information, (e) matching headings, features, sentence headings, (f) sentence completion, (g) summary, note, table, flow-chart completion, (h) diagram label completion, (i) short answer questions. 3.)  WRITING: This Part of IELTS is considered to be one of the most difficult and hard of the whole test. It is a complete descriptive part. Only 2 questions are asked in this part, however, the time allotted for this session is 60 minutes.
Two tasks are allotted to candidate in this part. In task 1, some visual information is shown to candidate, and he/she is required to write a summary in their own formats in about 150 words, and time allotted for this task is 20 minutes.
In t3hee task 2, candidates are required to write a summary or essay as a response to a point of view or argument to of test conductors or invigilators.

4.)  SPEAKING: this part is conducted to check your fluency while speaking or answering to some questions. This test is recorded by invigilator or test conducting representatives.
